Young artist Namita Kulkarni is a lucky girl. Bollywood heartthrob John Abraham has agreed to inaugurate an exhibition of this Indore-based artist’s works in Mumbai.

Incidentally, a few years back, when Namita was studying law, she had participated in a contest. To impress the judges, Namita had painted a portrait of John, which won her brownie points. Her prize was a date with John. Namita says, “The first time I met John he gave me his e-mail address. Thereafter I remained in touch with him. He is a very down-to- earth friendly and warm person.” She continues, “When I created my web page I mailed the link to him. He messaged back saying that he liked my work and that I should keep it up.

John appreciates the efforts of those who are driven and follow their hearts.”

So, when Namita decided to hold an exhibition in Mumbai she wrote to John requesting him to inaugurate it. John replied, ‘It will be a pleasure.”

“I was ecstatic and overwhelmed. I was also a little surprised that he had agreed so easily. I was dying to meet him. Now, he will actually be there for my first exhibition in the city.  He has even asked me to paint something for him. I’ll ask him what he likes and dislikes about my work.”

Namita adds, “Another reason why John would have agreed is that my exhibition deals with water conservation. The 23 art works will talk about the depletion of water resources in the world.” Incidentally, John had featured in Deepa Mehta’s film Water a while ago.
